- The Rat - The first villain (easy). His forces are always colored orange.
- The Snake - The second villain (easy-moderate). His forces are always colored yellow.
- The Pig - The third villain (moderate). His forces are always colored red.
- The Wolf - The fourth villain (hard). His forces are always colored grey.
- The Lord - You. Your forces are always colored blue (except for multiplayer games)

- The Lord >> Melee >> This is your most important unit. If he dies, the game is over.
- Archers >> Ranged >> Bows; 8 Gold >> This is the best from of defense in the beginning of a mission.
- Siege Engineers >> Siege >> 30 Gold >> Though they don't fight, they can use oil or machines.
- Spearmen >> Melee >> Spears; 8 Gold >> This is the best form of melee defense for the beginning of a mission.
- Monks >> Melee >> None >> Though they are slow, monks provide simple defense.
- Macemen >> Melee >> Mace; Leather Armor; 20 Gold >> This is one of the better forms of defense, and they are very destructive.
- Crossbowmen >> Ranged >> Crossbows; Leather Armor; 20 Gold >> This is basically the archer, only a lot stronger.
- Swordsmen >> Melee >> Swords; Metal Armor; 40 Gold >> These guys are some of your strongest, but they are very slow.
- Knights >> Melee >> Swords; Metal Armor; Horse; 40 Gold >> These guys are swordsmen on horses. They're really fast and very strong.
- Laddermen >> Siege >> 4 Gold >> The laddermen are very weak, and they hold a ladder to let your troops onto walls.
- Tunnelers >> Siege >> 30 Gold >> Tunnelers dig underground and destroy things above them.
